Introduction
Welcome to the examination section. This section provides an overview of the assessment structure for this academic year, guidelines on the different sections each exam comprises, and a collection of previous exams to aid in your preparation.
The structure of your assessment for this English course is divided into four stages, each designed to measure your learning progression and subject comprehension.
1. Initial Assessment: The start of the year will commence with an initial assessment. This is intended to evaluate your current understanding of the subject, and will allow me to identify your strengths and areas for improvement. It will also give you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the examination format that I will be using throughout the course.
2. Fall Mid-Term Exam: This midterm exam is designed to assess the progress you have made during the first half of the academic year. The results of this exam will provide important feedback on your understanding of the course content and your application of English language skills.
3. Spring Mid-Term Exam: The spring mid-term exam will evaluate the knowledge and skills you have gained throughout the second part of the year, thereby informing me of your readiness for the final assessment.
4. Final Exam: The course culminates with a final exam before the summer break. The final exam will provide an all-encompassing assessment of your year-long English learning journey. Please note that, depending on your program, this final exam may take the form of the “Nationellt prov”.
Each of these exams, regardless of when they are conducted, will be comprised of four sections:
A. Listening: This section tests your ability to understand spoken English, including different accents, intonation, and contextual clues.
B. Reading: This section assesses your comprehension of written English. It includes understanding the main idea, identifying details, and inferring meaning from diverse texts. It will often center around a text you will be given one week before the exam date.
C. Writing: The writing section evaluates your ability to express your ideas in written English. It tests grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, coherence, and cohesion in your writing.
D. Oral: In this section, your spoken English skills will be evaluated, including pronunciation, fluency, accuracy, and the ability to engage in interactive communication.
In addition to the overview of the assessment structure, you will also find a selection of previous exams in this section. These should serve as valuable resources for practice, self-assessment, and understanding the format of the exam questions.
We trust that this structured approach will offer a comprehensive measure of your English skills and development throughout the year. Here’s wishing you a fruitful and rewarding learning journey!
