Oral Assignment

Unit 5 Oral Assignment: Art of Persuasion - Delivering Your Speech

Assignment Description:

For this oral assignment, you will deliver your persuasive speech, which was written as part of the writing assignment for this unit. It should take you approximately five minutes. This is your chance to put the principles you’ve learned into practice, engage with your audience, and receive constructive feedback. Remember not to read straight off the paper - your goal is to connect with your audience, not to recite an essay.

Scaffolding:

Here’s how to prepare for delivering your speech:

  1. Practice: Read your speech aloud several times to familiarize yourself with the flow and rhythm of the words. This will also help you identify any awkward phrases that you might need to adjust.

  2. Memorize: Aim to memorize your main points and the overall structure of your speech. This way, even if you forget some details, you can still deliver a coherent speech.

  3. Engage: Remember that a speech is not just about what you say, but also how you say it. Use body language, facial expressions, and variations in tone and pace to engage your audience.

  4. Eye Contact: Make eye contact with your audience. This not only makes your speech more engaging but also helps you connect with your audience.

  5. Time Management: Keep track of your time to ensure that your speech is neither too short nor too long.
