Assignment Description:
For this pair assignment, you will role-play a situation where English is used as a lingua franca. This could be a business negotiation, an academic conference, or a social scenario. The aim is to depict how English facilitates communication across different cultures and languages. The role-play should last approximately 5-7 minutes.
Scaffolding:
Here is a suggested structure for your role-play:
- Introduction: Set the scene and introduce the characters.
- Main Situation: Act out the main scenario where English is used as a common language.
- Conflict or Misunderstanding (Optional): You may include a situation where there is a misunderstanding due to cultural differences.
- Resolution: Show how the characters use English to resolve the situation or achieve a common goal.
- Conclusion: Wrap up the scene and state what your characters learned from the situation.
