Introduction
Rubric Grading
While all assignments contain grading rubrics, this does not mean that they are worth equal weight or even contribute to your grade, some may be for practice. I will explain this in class.
Overview:
Welcome to the first unit of English 6 - English as a Lingua Franca A lingua franca is a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose native languages are different. It is used extensively for communication by people who do not share a first language, particularly in multilingual settings. Historically, languages like Latin, French, and English have served as lingua francas in different regions and periods. Today, English is often considered a global lingua franca, especially in business and international relations. . In this unit, we will focus on the global importance of English as a medium of communication between speakers of various native languages. Our journey will take us through the realms of business, politics, education, entertainment, and more, highlighting the role English plays in these diverse domains.

Reading:
Our two core texts beyond your independent research for this unit are:

- Chapter 1 from English Around the World: An Introduction by Edgar Schneider
